The renowned Finca Cortesín course, venue in September for the 2023 Solheim Cup, will host the first leg of the 13th Andalucía Golf Challenge Circuit-Destination PGA Riviera Maya by Bahía Príncipe Circuit on Sunday 19 February.

This is the first of 30 tournaments that will make up the latest  edition of this hugely popular open amateur circuit organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine. The circuit will cover most of the Andalucian provinces, as well as other destinations in central Spain, with the majority of the events being played on the Costa del Sol – at top-level courses.

The grand finale of the circuit, which will decide the five winners of trips to the Mexican Caribbean, will be played at Almenara on 30 September and will be followed by a gala dinner at the Gran Hotel Guadalpín Banús in Marbella.

Access to the final will be direct for the winner of each category and the scratch winner at all tournaments, while the remaining places will be awarded according to the Benahavís Ranking, which is based on points obtained in each event.

The Finca Cortesín tournament will offer major prizes for the scratch winner and the first three classified in each category, as well as for the ball closest to the pin. Tee-off is at 9.30 am, and the registration fee for the tournament is €195, including buggy, welcome pack, prize-giving cocktail reception and prize draw.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The design by American Cabell B. Robinson and attractive landscaping by Gerald Huggan capture the natural features of the area, adding an ideal balance between 20 varieties of flora, the typical Mediterranean forest and the course’s perfectly manicured Bermuda grass.

The excellent condition of the fairways and greens and meticulous maintenance make a round at Finca Cortesin a challenging test in an aesthetically exceptional setting.

This superb Costa del Sol course in Casares municipality has hosted numerous high-profile tournaments, including the Volvo World Match Play Championship – one of the world's most prestigious professional golf competitions – on three occasions (2009, 2011 and 2012).

Renowned for its attention to detail, Finca Cortesín Hotel, Golf & Spa undertook a comprehensive upgrade of its greens in 2017, becoming the first golf course in Spain to feature a new type of environmentally friendly Bermuda grass.
