Opened in 1993, Alhaurín Golf Resort is a course at the height of the sport, and not only because of its geographical location in a stunning mountain setting just over 10 minutes from the coast.

This Costa del Sol complex comprises an 18-hole par-72 course designed by Severiano Ballesteros, and another nine-hole par-three layout created by the legendary Cantabrian golfer. It also has a practice course and a golf academy, as well as other sports amenities including a regulation-size football pitch. In addition, the resort has a four-star hotel with 38 spacious rooms.

The 18-hole layout is truly impressive, adventurous and astounding at times, and certainly does not leave any player indifferent. In addition to enjoying a fun round, golfers can also admire stunning views over the Mijas mountain range and Mediterranean Sea throughout the length and breadth of the course.

After a change of ownership this year, Alhaurín Golf Resort is embarking on a new and exciting era led by its current president, Jordi Caralt Coloma.

- What are the main objectives of the new owners?

- The objectives are very clear and are based on three strategic points. The first is to position the golf course among the best 25 in Spain and to maintain the pitch & putt layout as one of the top five in Spain.

Second, to position ourselves as a standard-bearer in the football team camp sector. To that end we offer exclusive amenities that don’t have to be shared with third parties, and our football pitch – which is simply incomparable. In short, to position Alhaurín Golf Resort as a multi-functional complex that can satisfy the expectations of our clients in a global way.

- What are the main special features of the complex?

- Its amenities include a golf course designed by Severiano Ballesteros, a pitch & putt, a practice range, two restaurants, two bars, a hotel, a pool and sauna, a FIFA football pitch, tennis courts and staff who go out of their way to make clients happy.

- One of the main attractions of Alhaurín Golf is, without a doubt, the golf course designed by Seve. Can you describe it briefly for us?

- I’m not going to mislead you: it’s a very enjoyable course but at the same time challenging. It’s very important not to lose your concentration throughout the round, and above all else to try to enjoy the surroundings.

- In your opinion, what mark has Seve left on Alhaurín Golf?

- Its design and privileged location between mountains, together with the sea views.

- Apart from the 18-hole course what other golf amenities does the resort have?

- It has an indoor and outdoor practice range, nine par-three holes, a putting green and a golf academy for players of all levels.

- In addition to very spacious rooms, what are the other main features of the Alhaurín Golf hotel?

- Mainly its tranquillity and gastronomy.

- Why did you take over the Alhaurín Golf tourist complex?

- We had the opportunity of being able to buy the complex and saw many possibilities, in both the golfing and hotel aspects. That was on paper, but when we arrived and saw all the amenities we fell in love with it and decided not to let the opportunity pass.

- Golf and football… Why this rather strange and difficult mix to come across in the same resort?

- When we took over the complex the football pitch didn’t exist, but in front of the hotel there was a sufficiently large area to enable us to build one. We brought the best professionals here and saw that it could be a feasible and viable option. For us it is important to try to ease the seasonal nature of the hotel, and what better way than to provide it with another business channel. From our point of views as owners, we are very pleased with the decision.
