For the third consecutive year, Playa Serena in the Almería municipality of Roquetas de Mar has once again hosted a successful  leg of the Andalucía Golf Challenge-Destination PGA Riviera Maya Circuit.

As in all the Circuit's events, the winners of category one and two and the top scratch player earned the right to compete in the final on 30 September at Almenara. However, José Manuel Berenguel announced that it would not be possible in his case, as he will be attending his university in Arkansas on those dates. This created a vacancy, which will be covered by another player from the BENAHAVÍS RANKING, in which points obtained in up to six events are tallied.

The course is currently being prepared to host the Challenge de España event, part of the European Challenge Tour, from 7 September. The fairways have been considerably narrowed, with much more attractive and interesting fairway layouts. The course was in excellent condition, and it will undoubtedly be presented as a stunning showcase and be a great challenge for professionals competing in the September event. We congratulate the club's director, Francisco Javier Martín Mendoza, for how the course is being prepared and how both members and visitors can thoroughly enjoy playing at Playa Serena.

Participation exceeded expectations and registrations had to be closed several days before the event. There was a shotgun start for 112 players, who enjoyed refreshments at the hañfway point of the course and an exceptional cocktail reception during the prize-giving ceremony.

The quality of the Playa Serena restaurant, under the expert management of José Álvarez, is well above average and a great option for those visiting the area, regardless of whether they have the opportunity to play golf or not. José Álvarez’s La Costa restaurant in El Ejido has a Michelin star, obtained in 2006 and renewed every year since, and the establishment is also distinguished with a Repsol Guide “Sol”.

Club president Miguel García Soriano presented the prizes, followed by a gifts raffle to conclude a very pleasant day. The work of the whole team at the club in looking after the players was exquisite, and we would like to especially mention the support and attention received by the head of tournaments, José María Parrón, and the supervisor of golf operations and customer service, Inma Rodríguez,

The scratch and category one and two winners each won a place in the final of the Circuit, which is organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine and (in October) will determine the winners of five fabulous trips to the Riviera Maya.

The Playa Serena event was the 17th of as many as 30 tournaments scheduled to be held during the 13th edition of this hugely popular open amateur circuit, organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine. The Circuit covers all Andalucian provinces, in addition to other areas of central Spain, with the majority of events being held at top courses on the Costa del Sol.

The Circuit’s grand finale, which will decide the five winners of trips to the Mexican Caribbean, will be held at Almenara on 30 September, followed by a gala dinner at Gran Hotel Guadalpín Banús in Marbella.

Access to the final will be direct for the winners of each category and the leading scratch player in all the qualifying tournaments, while the rest of the places in the final will be awarded based on the Benahavís Ranking, calculated from points obtained in each leg.

The next event will be on Saturday 15 July at Chaparral (Costa del Sol).

The grand finale of the circuit will decide the five winners of one-week all-inclusive trips to the Bahía Príncipe resort in Riviera Maya, with golf at PGA Riviera Maya, El Camaleón Mayakoba and Playa Paraíso. The top two finishers in each category and the scratch winner in the final, to be played on 30 September at Almenara, will travel to the Mexican Caribbean.
