The New Course at the renowned Zagaleta resort has once again hosted a successful leg of the Andalucía Golf Challenge-Destination PGA Riviera Maya Circuit. 

The course was, as always, in excellent condition, with the speed of the greens at over 11 feet. In addition to an outstanding layout, players also enjoyed a spectacular setting with breathtaking views and deers occasionally spotted near the fairways. 

Six players who had already qualified for the grand finale on 30 September at Almenara, and to attend the gala dinner at the Gran Hotel Guadalpín Banús, were among those teeing up at Zagaleta. Despite having already qualified, they returned again, demonstrating much-appreciated loyalty to the Circuit. Ultimately, this meant that the place in the final for the top scratch qualifier went to fifth-placed Alexey Rovner Agazhanov. Players enjoyed excellent refreshments, with soft drinks and sweet and savoury canapés on the tee of the second hole provided by Delicias Gourmet Group, who also catered for the prize-giving lunch in the clubhouse.

The scratch and category one and two winners each won a place in the final of the Circuit, which is organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine and (in October) will determine the winners of five fabulous trips to the Riviera Maya.

In addition to prizes for the top three in each category and the scratch winner, there were special prizes for nearest to the pin: on the 2nd hole sponsored by IdeaTerrazas and won by Tatiana Kuznetsova, and on the 10th, a dinner-for-two at Dani García Group’s Tragabuches Restaurant, won by Mauricio Garayalde Larrouquere.

The Zagaleta event was the 15th of as many as 30 tournaments scheduled to be held during the 13th edition of this hugely popular open amateur circuit, organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine. The Circuit covers all Andalucian provinces, in addition to other areas of central Spain, with the majority of events being held at top courses on the Costa del Sol.

The Circuit’s grand finale, which will decide the five winners of trips to the Mexican Caribbean, will be held at Almenara on 30 September, followed by a gala dinner at Gran Hotel Guadalpín Banús in Marbella.

Access to the final will be direct for the winners of each category and the leading scratch player in all the qualifying tournaments, while the rest of the places in the final will be awarded based on the Benahavís Ranking, calculated from points obtained in each leg.

The next event will be on 2 July at La Cañada.

The grand finale of the circuit will decide the five winners of one-week all-inclusive trips to the Bahía Príncipe resort in Riviera Maya, with golf at PGA Riviera Maya, El Camaleón Mayakoba and Playa Paraíso. The top two finishers in each category and the scratch winner in the final, to be played on 30 September at Almenara, will travel to the Mexican Caribbean.
