Located in Benalup (Cádiz province), the magnificent Fairplay Golf & Spa Resort course was the stunning venue for the latest leg of the 10th Andalucía Golf Challenge-Destination Dominican Republic Ocean’s 4 Bahía Principe Circuit.

On the weekend players travelled to this exceptional resort, situated in the picturesque La Janda area (home of the “Ruta del Toro” or “Route of the Bull”), to tee up in the tournament organised by Andalucía Golf magazine. In addition to the golf course, they were able to enjoy the amenities of a five-star hotel and the resort's 2,000-square-metre-plus spa.

The par-73 course is highlighted by incomparable natural beauty. Its 18 holes are surrounded by impressive Mediterranean vegetation composed mainly of olive trees, cork oaks, pines and lentisk; and its gentle terrain is ideal for golf.

Located a short distance from Benalup village, and not far from the dramatic hillside town of Vejer de la Frontera, the golf course offers spectacular views over the La Janda lagoons and Alcornocales nature park, which includes one of Europe’s most attractive forests, and is hugely popular with tourists..

THE TOP PLAYERS

Players were accompanied by splendidly sunny skies and extremely pleasant temperatures throughout the tournament. Joaquín Escalante Boceta was victorious in the first category with 36 points, and Alejandro López Maléndez won category two (38). The scratch winner was Jesús Sánchez Calvente (32). Finishing second in their respective categories were José Manuel Bryan Jiménez (34) and Germán Camacho Chaves (37), and third were Manuel David Rodríaguez Amaya (34) and Francisco Huertas Macías (37). Special prizes for closest to the pin went to Francisco Javier Gavira Padilla and for longest drives to Lulu Pouroulis and Joaquín Escalante Boceta.

Those who were not previously familiar with Fairplay Golf – the majority of participants in the tournament – were very pleasantly surprised by the course, highlighting the quality of the layout and its excellent presentation.

The five-star hotel was also widely praised, as well as the service and attention provided. In the end, even with a full program, the weekend proved to be too short for many, and they vowed to return.

TRIP TO THE CARIBBEAN

As was the case in 2018 (in 2019 the destination was the Riviera Maya), the top five players on the Circuit will be rewarded with week-long trips to the Dominican Republic, with all-inclusive stays at the five-star Luxury Bahía Príncipe Bouganville hotel and  golf at the spectacular Ocean's 4, Punta Espada and Teeth of the Dog courses. The planned date for the trip is from 26 October to 2 November 2020.

These five winners will be decided at the Circuit’s grand final, to be played on 29 August at Finca Cortesín, the venue for three editions of the Volvo Match Play World Championship. The leading three in each of the two categories plus the best scratch player in each tournament will gain places in the grand final. Prizes of a trip to the Dominican Republic’s Caribbean area will be secured by the top two players in each category and the scratch winner of the grand final.
