A new summer season of the popular annual Andalucía Golf Challenge circuit begins at Royal Guadalmina Golf Club on Saturday 17 June. Places are still available in the competition for golfers keen to play at one of Spain’s most spectacular and attractive courses, and to have the opportunity of winning some great prizes.

Held at the Costa del Sol’s premier courses, this amateur circuit is now in its seventh year and has become a classic on the Andalucian golf schedule, creating great expectation and interest among golfers from throughout Europe – thanks to a combination of top-quality venues, excellent organisation and superb prizes.

For this opening summer tournament at Royal Guadalmina Golf Club’s South Course, there will be major prizes for the top three placed players in each category, as well as for the winners of the longest drive (men and women), closest to the pin and special scratch prizes. The entry fee includes green fee, cocktail reception, trophies and raffle. All participants must be at least 18 years old, as they will be receiving a bottle of Hacienda Montecorto verdejo white wine as a gift from the distributor Bodegas Álvaro Domecq.

Other tournament sponsors include Fairway + Blue, TomTom, D.O. Somontano, Holiday Golf and real estate developer Ikasa. The scratch winner will receive the prize of a painting by well-known artist Alejandro Hermann, valued at several thousand euros.

Designed by the doyen of Spanish golf architects Javier Arana, Guadalmina South is the second oldest course on the Costa del Sol (inaugurated in 1959) and the first 18-hole layout at this renowned Marbella club. The fairways meander between long-standing trees, are quite wide and have hardly any rough. Guadalmina South underwent a major remodelling in 2002 that virtually transformed it into a new course, including a computerised irrigation system, new tees, reconstruction of the greens and renewal of the fairway grass.

The seventh annual Andalucía Golf Challenge this year coincides with Andalucía Golf/España Golf’s 30th anniversary as Spain’s longest-running bilingual golf magazine. The tournament schedule is:

17 June – Royal Guadalmina Golf Club

3-4 July – Royal Sotogrande Golf Club

29 July – La Reserva de Sotogrande

15 August – San Roque Club (Old Course)

19 August – Flamingos (Villa Padierna)

2 September – Finca Cortesín
