When 30 renowned Andalucian chefs gather on the Costa del Sol in May for the 2017 Marbella All Stars gastronomic event, their first culinary port of call will be Santa María Golf’s H19 Restaurant. The Marbella club will also offer those chefs who don’t play golf an introduction to the sport.

This golf-cum-dining event at H19, which overlooks the first and 18th holes at Santa María, is just one of a series of activities being held by the club throughout the year to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

The restaurant will be offering the chefs a special tasting. “We are going to serve them 10 cold canapés, 10 hot ones and some miniature desserts,” explains H19 manager and chef Seyni Gueye Dia. They have all been specially created for the event. “It’s a great challenge for us, and we want to demonstrate to them that, even though we are a modest restaurant, we also know how to do things well.”

Seyni moved to Spain from his home country Senegal 12 years ago and has been running the Santa María Golf restaurant for the past nine years. He says the H19 cuisine is based on fresh local products, from both the sea and the soil, prepared right before serving. “We work with the highest quality ingredients available at the market.

Here we have both international and traditional Andalucian cuisine, for people to savour in a relaxed manner, as well as delicious wraps and club sandwiches for golfers in a hurry. Our clients always leave satisfied.” Also popular are the barbecues held every week, accompanied by live music.

One of the tasty dishes Seyni recommends for this time of the year is a Córdoba salmorejo (cold soup-purée of tomato, bread, oil and garlic) with a very personal touch, which he prefers to keep secret and only reveal to those trying it. “I’m sure they will be pleasantly surprised.” Other special treats include charcoal-barbecued meats cooked grilled fish.

Most of the diners are golfers playing at Santa María Golf, but there are more and more clients who don’t play the game and mostly live in urbanisations located near the club, in the Elviria area. “The restaurant is open for everyone,” he says.

H19 is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, from Monday to Sunday.
