Spain’s most famous course, Royal Valderrama Golf Club, presents this spectacular sight when viewed from above. Real winged birdies can be spotted in the panoramic outline.

The use of drones to capture aerial images has provided a new perspective on landscapes and scenery. The beauty of a view from the air is quite evident when the objective is spectacular in its own right, whatever the angle of vision, from high above or on the ground.

This is certainly true in the case of Valderrama, with its superb shape taking on a new dimension when seen from a bird’s eye view. Here you can observe the new practice area on the course, which hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup, with its four greens protected by bunkers. The aesthetic imagery is unmistakeable, especially highlighted by the luxuriant mass of cork trees that represent a sign of identity for this famous Costa del Sol course.

t’s a shame drones didn’t exist during that inter-continental competition captained by Seve Ballesteros, when the European defeated the Americans. The images would have been a memorable retrospective. Or the time when Tiger Woods beat Miguel Ángel Jiménez on the last hole to win the American Express World Golf Championship title; or another occasion in the Volvo Masters when Colin Montgomerie and Bernhard Langer shared victory when the sun disappeared from view… Major stories played out at a magnificent Valderrama.
