Now 25 years old, Golf Novo Sancti Petri is a significant focal point for tourism on the Costa del la Luz in Cádiz province. As the first 36 holes designed by Seve Ballesteros in Europe – virtually running alongside the famous La Barrosa beach – Novo Sancti Petri is the standard-bearer for an exceptional golf destination.

In May 1990, the Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club started its journey with 27 holes, and today it has become one of the best golf courses in Europe. December of that year saw the official inauguration of the Clubhouse in the presence of HRH the Count of Barcelona, representatives of public authorities, founder members, and its designer, Severiano Ballesteros.

Since that day, the Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club has changed considerably. Today it boasts a Golf Academy, Jack Nicklaus Academy, and even a children\'s club. In 2000, the club was extended by 9 holes to complete the 2 full rounds you can currently play, named Mar (sea) and Pinos y Centro (pines and centre), totalling 36 holes. What is more, Golf Novo Sancti Petri offers 18 further holes, providing its clients with a total of 3 rounds of golf (all par 72) with different characteristics, that is to say, 36 holes in all. The practice course has been extended and equipped with sheltered facilities and it has more than 150 training spaces.

Ideal destination

Thanks to the opening of the four-star Iberostar Royal Andalus in 1991 and the Iberostar Andalucía Playa in 2000 (which next year becomes a five-star hotel following a major refurbishment of its installations), both just a five-minute walk from the golf courses, Novo Sancti Petri has been transformed into one of Europe’s top golf resorts.

Its location, on the edge of the Atlantic, and the enviable climate of the region make it an ideal destination to play golf in Andalusia.

In course A, the renowned Sea and Pines course at Novo Sancti Petri golf course, the first 9 holes offer wide fairways and the feeling of finally being on holiday. The views over the magnificent artificial water obstacles prepare you for the spectacular 6th hole, where the green is just above the beach, and from where there is a view of a sunset so spectacular that you almost forget to walk off.

The 9th hole leads to the complicated pine round, first passing through the club house and the caddy master. Here, it is a case of overcoming obstacles in the form of pine trees – on the other hand, there are no water hazards.

That round at Novo Sancti Petri par 72 is a classic of its design, with 4 par 3 holes, 10 par 4 holes, and 4 par 5 holes.

In this varied round at the Novo Sancti Petri golf course, the first nine holes just opposite the caddy master are flat, with a lake between holes 5, 8, and 9. From holes 10 to 13, the terrain is undulating and offers excellent views over the Atlantic Ocean, with water hazards between holes 10 and 13. Holes 5 to 13 were opened in 2001. There is another lake between holes 14, 15, and 16. On the 18th hole, the course designer immortalised himself with a bunker shaped like an \"S\" for Severiano.

The course, which is also a par 72, has an especially attractive design that is rarely seen, characterised by 6 par 3 holes, 6 par 4 holes, and 6 par 5 holes, which make it different, demanding, and unmistakeable.
