El Paraiso Golf Club, which last year celebrated its 40th anniversary, was conceived with one single objective in mind: to be a great course, not an excuse to sell homes. Its renowned designer was clear what he wanted and was not going to tolerate any interference: in fact, he was none other than legendary South African golfer Gary Player, the winner of nine majors and, together with Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, part of an historic trio who dominated the game during a golden era of top competition.
The El Paraiso fairways are wide and easy to walk, enabling golfers to enjoy stunning surroundings thanks to a verdant profusion of trees and vegetation. The location is excellent, in the heart of the Costa del Sol, between two of the Coast’s most celebrated golfing municipalities, Marbella and Estepona.
In addition to being a magnificent course, El Paraiso is also known as one of the friendliest clubs on the Coast, highlighted by the fact it organises up to nine competitions a week to suit players of all levels: white tees on Saturdays; Am-Am on Mondays and Fridays; individual on Mondays, etc.
The ladies have an important presence at El Paraiso. There are over 200 female members of the club and they are extremely well organised: ladies day is on Monday but they also play on Wednesdays which is the members’ day, and Fridays..
To enhance even more the relationships among members, El Paraiso organises a lively social event every month, including theme nights, live music, quizzes and gala dinners.
The restaurant has a fantastic menu and very reasonable prices, as they are determined by the club’s administrative committee.
At the start of the recession, the club decided to introduce numerous different types of membership to suit everyone from the once-a-month golfer to those playing once-a-week – even for six months – and they can choose the option that best suits their requirements and preferences. The club has also recently launched a weekend membership for only €99 a month. In addition to enjoying a superb golf course, new members joining El Paraiso receive a warm welcome and are soon making new friends.
