A new era has begun for Chaparral Golf Club, one of the most attractive courses on the Costa del Sol. The course is located in Mijas municipality in the midst of a lush pine forest and with the Mediterranean Sea as a stunning backdrop.

In 1991 the first sketches of this golf course, destined to change the concept of quality within the varied array of courses on the Costa del Sol, were unveiled. A Spanish-British consortium had the foresight to entrust the design to renowned Málaga golf course architect Pepe Gancedo, who put all his know-how into creating 18 demanding and picturesque holes that have become standard-bearers in terms of quality and layout.

In 2003, businessman Antonio Rubio acquired the golf course and decided to involve Gancedo again to redesign it. Subsequently, its re-opening was celebrated on 28 February 2006.

During this time Chaparral Golf Club has surpassed its own expectations, creating an internationally renowned golfing product, located in a privileged setting between Málaga and Marbella, and designed for those who are committed to quality of life.

The club has exceptional facilities and practice areas. The clubhouse, with its distinctive Andalucian architecture, is a stunning white-walled farmhouse with wooden ceilings and balustrades. In addition, its large terrace provides magnificent views for enjoying the Costa del Sol’s privileged climate.

The practice area has a 1,000 square metre putting green with short game and practice bunker areas, making Chaparral Golf Club one of the most comprehensive driving ranges on the Costa del Sol.

Recently, several investments have been made to renovate and improve the facilities with the aim of enhancing the customer experience for both members and visitors. The latest investment has served to completely renovate the upper and lower part of the driving range. In the upper part, a 70-metre long running tee line has been installed, manufactured using the best materials on the market. The chosen grass variety is Tee Turf PA XL, made of top-quality nylon (polyamides).

Chaparral Golf will also soon incorporate the latest interactive technology with the Toptracer system – cameras that will be mounted around the facility to provide golfers with accurate live shot data including distance, speed, tee angle, trajectory and more after each shot. The data will be instantly displayed on 21-inch monitors set up in each position.

This exciting technology gives golfers and non-golfers alike the opportunity to experience the game in a modern way, whether they are looking to use the driving range for practice or to compete in games and challenges with friends.

Another new feature is the Lounge Bar built next to the ninth hole, which has become one of the areas that is most highly valued by members and clients – the perfect place to take a short break and enjoy the Mediterranean breeze and climate.

A New Golf Lifestyle

Chaparral Golf has launched its new right-of-use product based on three fundamental pillars: exclusivity, conviviality and familiarity. "Membership at Chaparral," says director Domingo Gavira, "will become the closest thing to feeling at home. A very active and welcoming social atmosphere, together with meticulous service provided to members, will make Chaparral Golf Club one of the best social clubs.

"Our warm-hearted and helpful team will anticipate your needs and aim to provide you with the best golfing experience from the moment you arrive. It's the perfect opportunity to feel part of a family club, not just a golf club, as you will have access to a varied program of activities that will keep everyone in the family involved, both children and adults.”

There are many great social clubs around the world, he says, "but what makes a club special is attention to detail, knowing how to anticipate the needs of its members and offering a service that makes them feel special every day of the year".

Gavira encourages golfers to discover the advantages of what he defines as "one of the best social golf clubs on the Costa del Sol".

Chaparral Golf Membership

In line with ongoing improvements to the course and the rest of the facilities, Chaparral Golf Club is committed to becoming one of the most select clubs in Mijas.

Once these new rights-of-use and the option to take advantage of beneficial conditions for five or 10 years are activated in March, the offer will be limited to only 150 members per unit, making it a great opportunity to be part of this wonderful social club. This is a long-term commitment by the club to its members and the members to their club.

This change in the club's philosophy is important: transformed from being a “pay & play” course to a members' club with mixed operations in which members have the best times reserved for them and visiting players are received with the same quality of service as always.

"There will even be the option to experience the club atmosphere before deciding whether to invest in the purchase of a right-of-use," says Gavira, "and after a trial period it will be possible to complete the purchase and secure membership status.”

Members will enjoy great advantages and an excellent calendar of social activities. They will have an interesting schedule of competitions, and a complete outfit (including personalised golf bag) that the club gives to each of its members. In addition, the club will be structured into two committees representing the interests of the entire membership. All members will have access to an app to stay up to date with club news and manage their own bookings, among other attractive features, as well as having services and rentals included.

The Captains’ Views

Manolo Fernández

I have been linked to this spectacular golf course for nine years and this year, with the new rights-of-use system, I have the sensation, for the first time, of feeling part of a members' club.

Chaparral Golf Club has an excellent course, designed by Pepe Gancedo and framed by an exceptional Canarian pine forest that enables me to enjoy each of its 18 holes. In addition to all of the above, I would like to emphasise that it is complemented by a human team that makes you feel at home.

I have been a member of Chaparral Golf Club for the past nine years. We have a wonderful members section within Chaparral, with an active social calendar of events and competitions, where we all enjoy weekly federated and friendly/fun competitions. I joined Chaparral all those years ago because of its beautiful but very challenging course, but more importantly the warm welcome I received from all of their members. I now extend that welcome to every new member who walks through the doors of Chaparral. I want every new member to feel welcome and special.
