The magnificent Old Course at Atalaya Golf & Country Club on the Costa del Sol (in Estepona municipality) was the venue for the grand finale of the Andalucía Golf Challenge-Destination Dominican Republic Ocean’s 4 Bahía Príncipe Circuit. This year’s open amateur Circuit, celebrating its 10th anniversary, was played at a total of 16 superb courses – including several of Spain’s most renowned.

Scratch winner Gonzalo Lillly Martínez (41 points), the top two in category one, José Andrés Torres Cabral and Francisco López Castro (both with 39 points), and the leading category two players, Manuel Jesús Godoy del Roj (43) and Luis Miguel Rodríguez Martínez (41), were the overall winners of five week-long trips to the Dominican Republic including flights, transfers, all-inclusive five-star hotel accommodation and golf at three of the Caribbean’s finest courses: Ocean’s 4, Teeth of the Dog and Punta Espada.

Although rain was forecast, in the end it barely appeared, and only very lightly for about 20 minutes. So the Circuit, organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine, was able to come to a pleasant conclusion. One hundred participants enjoyed playing on an outstanding course designed by Bernard von Limburger, one of Germany's finest golf architects, who in addition to Atalaya Golf designed another 74 courses.

Following the competition, those taking part moved on to the El Gamonal restaurant in Marbella, where they savoured a fantastic lunch, all with strict measures recommended by the Junta de Andalucía (regional government) in relation to COVID-19, including tables for four or six people, social distancing, and a completely open and well-ventilated room.

Before the awards ceremony, guests were addressed by Atalaya Golf director Andrés Sánchez; Santa Clara Granada director Joaquín Serrano, who highlighted Granada Golf Destination’s attractions as a top-level golf and cultural tourism destination; Holiday Golf business group chairman Stefan Tjellander; Royal Andalucian Golf Federation president Pablo Mansilla; and Marbella Town Hall councillor for sport Manuel Cardeña.
