Royal Valderrama Club, which in September will host a new edition of the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters, was the scene of the fifth round of the Andalucía Golf Challenge Destination Dominican Republic Ocean’s 4 Bahía Príncipe Circuit. Universally recognised over the years as the finest golf course in continental Europe, Valderrama tested the skill and mettle of the players taking part, on a day blessed with wonderful weather and a great golfing ambience. As has become customary on the Circuit, the available places to play in the tournament were sold out several days in advance.

Designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones, the course looked spectacular, as always, with perfectly manicured fairways and greens. Competing in such an iconic setting, the scene of memorable Ryder Cup, American Express World Golf Championship, Volvo Masters, Open de España and Andalucía Masters events, invariably provides magnificent memories cherished by the participants.

Organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine, the popular open amateur circuit is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and – the same as with the past two editions – offers an exceptional grand final prize of five trips to the Caribbean provided by Piñero Group.

Apart from prizes for each tournament (premium-brand apparel from the fairway+blue boutique in Puerto Banús, DO Somontano wines, sports equipment from Holiday Golf, etc.), the top three finishers in each category plus the scratch winner obtain places in the circuit’s grand finale, with the chance of securing one of the five Dominican Republic holidays including flights, transfers, all-inclusive luxury hotel accommodation, and golf at three of the best courses in the Caribbean: Ocean's 4, Teeth of The Dog and Punta Espada.

The top three players in category one were: Juan Castro Rodríguez (37 points), Santiago Ríos Rubio (36) and Alejandro Martínez Arasso (35). Helios Otero Díaz and Francisco Javier García Marín qualified for the grand final together with Juan Castro, as Santiago Ríos had already gained a place from a previous Circuit tournament and  Alejandro Martínez won the scratch prize at Valderrama, thus also earning his way to the grand final. Worth highlighting in addition was the performance by Nicolás Alexander Otero da Gama (under 18 years, so not eligible for a prize) who finished fourth.

The top three in category two were Sebastián Vidal López-Burgos (41 points), Flavio Cassina (39) and Víctor Ceballos Niebla (38), all of them gaining places in the grand final.

Scratch winner Alejandro Martínez Arasso tied on 25 points with Francisco Javier García Marín.

As for the special prizes, closest to the pin went to Manuel Saura and Helios Otero won the longest drive.

The next two scheduled tournaments on the Andalucía Golf Challenge Destination Dominican Republic Ocean’s 4 Bahía Príncipe Circuit are 25 July at Santa Clara Marbella and 29 July at San Roque New Course.
