Just two weeks after it hosted the European Tour’s premier event in Spain, the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters, Royal Valderrama Club was the setting for a new leg of the 2019 Andalucía Golf Challenge Destination Riviera Maya Golf Club Bahia Principe in Mexico Circuit. This exceptional course, repeatedly and deservedly chosen as the best in continental Europe, attracted effusive praise from participants in the sixth event of 2019, organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf, sponsored by Riviera Maya Bahía Príncipe, Exxacon and Reale-Galpe and, as is customary on the Circuit, involving both Spanish and foreign players

Designed by legendary American architect Robert Trent Jones, the course did not disappoint anyone, although the results were not always what was expected or desired by the players, given the challenge they faced. The layout was, as always, in magnificent condition, and stunning sunny weather ensued a great day of golf that will, for a variety of reasons, remain etched in the personal memories of the participants.

In addition to the prizes presented for each tournament (top-brand clothes from fairway+blue boutique, DO Somontano wines, sports equipment, etc.), the top five finishers in each category won places in the grand final of the circuit with a chance to opt for one of five trips to Riviera Maya that includes flights, hotel accommodation (in Riviera Maya Bahia Principe Resort) and golf at three extraordinary courses in the Mexican Caribbean: Riviera Maya Golf Club, El Camaleón Mayakoba (a US PGA Tour tournament venue) and Playa Paraiso.

The top finishers at RCG Sotogrande in category one, obtaining a place for the grand final, were (in order): José Antonio Cáceres Domínguez (37 points), José Carlos Lasso de la Vega Jessen (34), Juan Luis Leal Moreno (32), Antonio Pintidura García (31) and Jon Ander Busto Ajuria (31).

In category two, the five making it to the grand final were: Luis Pavía de Sousa (36), Antonio Capasso (33), Giulio Riva (30), Dani Aerts (30) and María Eugenia Ramos Arrenberg (30).

The scratch winner was José Carlos Lasso de la Vega (32), the special prize for nearest to the pin went to Pablo Cascajo, and the prizes for longest drives were won by Maya Bellod Álvarez de Lorenzana and José Carlos Lasso de la Vega.

The day of golf concluded at the clubhouse with a superb cocktail reception, prize-giving ceremony and gifts raffle. During the reception, a video was presented showing all the players in action.

The next event of the Andalucía Golf Challenge Destination Riviera Maya Golf Club will be on 27 July at San Roque Club’s Old Course. TOURNAMENT ENTRY
