Interest in the opening event of the exciting new Andalucía Golf Challenge Destination “La Romana Golf Club Bahía Príncipe” exceeded all expectations. The demand for tee times at Royal Guadalhorce Golf Club was so high that a second day of competition was needed to accommodate all 200 participants - with the tournament eventually being played on both Friday and Saturday (4 and 5 May).
In addition to excellent prizes for each tournament (top-brand apparel from the fairway + blue boutique, D.O. Somontano wines, sports equipment, etc.), the first five players classified in each category win a place in the grand final of the circuit and an opportunity to secure one of the five trips to the Dominican Republic for a week that includes flights, hotel accommodation (Bahía Principe) and four days of golf (two in La Romana Golf Club, one in Punta Espada and another in Diente de Perro).
The first five classified at Royal Guadalhorce in category one were, in order: Ignacio Escobar Stemmann (41 points), José Antonio Rivas Espada (40), Baltasar Carlos Álvarez Ramos (38), Luis Higuera Yela (38) and Pedro Antonio Corral Pedruzo (38).
In category two the five who won a place in the grand final were María Victoria Sel Arias (42 points), Rafael Rubio Lacambra (41), Juan Carlos Cuadrado Aznar (40), J. Larrain Fernández de Liencres (40), Outi Kylmaaho (40) and Juan Lumbreras Vivar (40).
The scratch winner was José Antonio Rivas Espada, who was presented with a painting by renowned Marbella-based artist Alejandro Hermann. The special prizes for ball closest to the pin and longest men's drive were both won by Javier Seara Prieto, while the longest female drive prize went to María Eugenia Navarro Ramos.
This festival of golf concluded with a splendid paella on the charming clubhouse patio, built in part of what was once a stately farm estate dating to the 18th century. Cerveza San Miguel offered beer refreshments in a marquee installed on the patio.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the course is situated in a stunning natural setting that is free from any surrounding building construction. The original layout, created by Finnish architect Kosti Kuronen, was re-designed by Málaga-born international star Miguel Ángel Jiménez.

The next Andalucía Golf Challenge event will be held on 20 May at San Roque Club's Old Course.
