The superb La Reserva Club Sotogrande course – created by renowned US golf designer Cabell B. Robinson – hosted a hugely successful Andalucía Golf Challenge event. The tournament was the latest leg of this open amateur championship circuit, which is celebrating its seventh year and is being held this summer at the Costa del Sol’s finest courses.

The tournament was played on a splendidly sunny day, with the course in excellent condition, attracting widespread praise from the participants, both those who had played La Reserva previously and others making their first visit. As is customary on this popular challenge circuit, golfers of a diverse range of nationalities took part: Spanish, Swedish, British, Russian, Swedish, French, Polish…

The prize-giving ceremony was held on the terrace of the elegantly appointed clubhouse, accompanied by a superb cocktail reception including delicious aperitifs followed by a paella, dessert pastries and fruit brochettes, plus a “championship`” surprise – the presence of multiple European Tour and world champion Manuel Piñero.

Piñero spoke affectionately about Andaluccelebrates its ar wedish, FGrenmion Manuel Piñero.

The famous Spanish golfer, a Ryder Cup winner as well as the holder of eight Tour titles, was accompanied during the prize-giving by Andalucía Golf publishers Antonio Sánchez and Stefan Tjellander (also managing director of Holiday Golf); Sastian Rie sian, Swedish, FGrenmparely f); Sndaluc well as eight Tour titles, and bhouse, accompanied by ussian, Swedish, FGrenmébastian Rieg, manager of Puerto Banús golf apparel and footwear boutique Fairway+Blue; and Sara Moreno, events manager for the host club.

As for the results out on the course… on this occasion the women proved to be in better form than the men, taking home the main prizes in the two categories.

Category one was won by Almudena Ucillos with 40 points, followed by Thomas Johansson (38) and Enrique Bejarano (36).

Leading the way in category two was Elena Zagrebelnaya (41), with Sam Moss (38) second and Lourdes Gómez López (36) third.

The scratch prize was secured by Jean Claude Goetz, who won a wonderful painting by prestigious Marbella-based artist Alejandro Hermann; while the special prizes for closest to the pin and longest drive went to Lina López, Esteban Rodríguez Sevillano and Enrique de Guzmán
