LA ZAGALETA - This strictly private course forms part of the most exclusive development in Spain, the 1,000-hectare tract of land which used to belong to Saudi financier Adnan Khashoggi, who once lived in what is now the palatial clubhouse. The rest of what used to be his estate is now a nature reserve with many diverse species of plants and wildlife, though there is also hunting, fishing, riding and a heliport. La Zagaleta is located 10 kilometres up the Ronda road from San Pedro and from it there are magnificent views over the hills and the sea to Gibraltar. The golf course was designed by Californian Bradford Benz.

LOS BARRANCOS - This course is a must to see and play if you are lucky enough to be invited. Many of the holes offer the ultimate challenge with long carries over protected barrancos to large, undulating but fair greens where great care has been taken to provide generous green surrounds. The varied challenges from the tees provide the player with many options illustrating the ‘risk and reward design’ strategy perfectly. Bunkering is not stereotypical resort style as the terrain lends itself in many ways to a more traditional bunker form and these too have been strategically placed. Shaping also has been carefully conceived so to marry the course within its mountainous backdrop yet providing rolling fairways and a playable and maintainable golf course.

HOW TO GET THERE

From the coast, take the Ronda road which begins at San Pedro Alcantara and the course is about 10 kilometres from the coast.
